Milestones
Social and emotional development – Means how children develop a sense of trust in themselves and the world around them, develop their individuality and act around other children.
Your baby might respond to you and other familiar people in one or more of these ways:
Shows his feelings by crying, and smiling.
Uses his face and body to let you know how he feels.
Shows interest in watching your face.
Quiets in response to your touch.
Parent Strategies
Understanding your child’s behavior and supporting your baby’s positive relationships.
Your baby doesn’t have the words to tell you his needs and wants. Fussing, crying and quieting down are the non-verbal means of communication. Try and understand his needs to the best of your ability. If he cries, try swaddling him, rocking him, singing to him or taking him for a walk outdoors. Be mindful of the fact that as a newborn, your baby will need frequent diaper changes. Making sure that he is dry, clean and comfortable important.
